As the legendary Jawa brand returns to India after two decades, 104 dealerships have been appointed across the country, bookings have opened online and deliveries are set to commence from early 2019.
Jawa Motorcycles, operating in India under Classic Legends Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Mahindra Group, will commence operations in India with three new bikes – Jawa, Jawa Forty Two and the Perak.
Each of these offering boast of a modern yet retro styling, which include all the necessities of a modern bike, yet exude a retro charm. Directly competing with Royal Enfield Classic, the Jawa is priced at Rs 1.64 lakhs, Jawa Forty Two at Rs 1.55 lakhs while Jawa Perak carries a price tag of Rs 1.89 lakhs.
It will be the Jawa and Jawa 42 which will be launched at first. The media ride this week in Udaipur, will only have these two motorcycles. Post the media rides are over, test ride bikes will be available at Jawa dealerships from 15th December 2018.
This will be the first time anyone other than the manufacturer of the new Jawa motorcycles, will be able to ride them. Questions about Jawa and Jawa Forty Two like how is it to ride, braking, riding dynamics, reliability, etc, will be answered soon.
New Jawas share a design language borrowed from the original motorcycles. These two models, are the company’s torch bearers and are powered by same engine, which is based on Mahindra Mojo’s engine. The new 293cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, DOHC engine offers 27 bhp power and 28 Nm torque mated to a 6 speed transmission allowing for a top speed of over 130 kmph.
Jawa Perak is different from the other two models in terms of design. It gets bobber styling cues with a floating seat, bar end mirrors, chopped fenders and short exhaust mufflers. Jawa Perak is powered by a new 334 cc engine which delivers 30 PS and 31 Nm. The engine has been developed through collaboration between the Mahindra Group’s R&D Center in Pune and Technical Center in Varese, Italy.
