Mahindra Marazzo crash tested – First Indian MPV to score 4 star safety

Mahindra Marazzo, one of two big launches from the Indian manufacturer has traded a path that few have dared to. The company has secured its first NCAP crash test stars in 3 months of launch. And mind you, it’s a brand new car. Right from the chassis to the engine, to the platform, everything is new.

Mahindra Marazzo with standard double airbags, ABS, SBR for driver and ISOFIX anchorages, secured four stars in Adult Occupant Protection and two stars for Child Occupant Protection. It is the first Indian MPV to score a 4 star rating.

The results mean Mahindra Marazzo offers good protection for adult head and neck, marginal protection for driver chest, and adequate protection for passenger chest. There is some risk to lower legs due to pedal displacement. In the 18 month old child dummy test, protection is good, and for a 3 year old, readings in chest and head exposure are high.

David Ward, Global NCAP Secretary General said, “This is a huge landmark for car safety in India. Congratulations also to Mahindra for their first four star result. Global NCAP is looking forward to many more Indian five star cars and further improvements in both pedestrian protection and crash avoidance.”

Commenting on this achievement, Rajan Wadhera, President, Automotive Sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. mentioned, “This is a proud moment for Mahindra as the 4 star rating for Adult Occupation Protection reiterates our commitment towards safety. We have designed the Marazzo with many new safety features to ensure a safe ride for our customers. With Safety being at the forefront for all our vehicles, I am sure that this recognition will spur us to achieve higher safety parameters for our entire range of vehicles.”

Mahindra Marazzo offers good protection for driver and passenger’s knees. The stable bodyshell is capable of withstanding further loadings. Standard SBR (seatbelt reminder) is offered for driver and standard ABS. SBR for passenger doesn’t meet Global NCAP requirements.

Child seat for a 3 year old is installed forward facing with ISOFIX and top tether but doesn’t prevent excessive forward movement upon impact. Due to this, the head is vulnerable. Chest protection results are fair.

18 month old CRS (child restraint system) is installed with ISOFIX and leg support rearward facing and offers good protection for head and chest. CRS does not show incompatibility. ISOFIX and top tether anchorages in the 2 outboard rear seats and 3 point belts in all seating positions are standard. Passenger airbag disconnection is possible. Global NCAP crash test safety rating for Mahindra Marazzo SUVs are applicable for vehicles manufactured from November 16th, 2018.
