New Maruti WagonR arrives at dealer – Interiors, Exteriors photos, 1.2L engine

New Maruti WagonR 2019 has been spotted without any camouflage in the latest spyshots which were clicked at a Maruti dealer. The photos are being circulated on Whatsapp groups. Production of the eagerly anticipated compact hatchback started last month. Now the cars are being shipped to dealers across India, ahead of launch on 23rd Jan.

These photos clearly show that the latest iteration of the India-spec WagonR is significantly different from its Japanese counterpart, keeping up with the tradition. Though the new Maruti WagonR carries forward the tall boy construction, the exterior design is completely new.

The new front end features funky headlamps with kinks on the external edges, a rectangular grille with a badge carrying chrome strip, a prominent black chin, and quadrilateral foglight enclosures. Like its predecessor, the 2019 Maruti WagonR’s profile features near-flat body panels but the monotony is broken by the plastic insert on the C-pillar which creates an illusion of floating roof.

The rear fascia is characterized by vertical X-mas tree taillights, simple bumper, and a large license plate enclosure with ‘WagonR’ branded chrome insert. The interior too would be completely revamped. We expect the new Maruti WagonR to offer more room, especially at the rear.

The new hatchback is reported to be based on an improved version of the existing platform which is designed to pass the upcoming crash tests. The car will also feature a driver side airbag and rear packing sensors as mandated by the new safety regulations. Given that competition in the segment has grown intense in the last few years, Maruti has bestowed the new WagonR with a lot of new features including a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system on the top-end variant.

The 2019 Maruti WagonR would continue to be powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with some improvements. In addition to a standard 5-speed manual transmission, the car will be offered with an AMT option right from launch. The 1 liter engine will also get dual fuel option of CNG and auto LPG from launch. In addition, top end variant will be powered by 1.2 liter petrol engine, which is also seen on the Swift. It will take on the Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago. Expected price is in the Rs 4.5 lakh range.
