Tata Motors next big launch is the Altroz premium hatchback. With launch date nearing, the company has today gone ahead launched the official website. But there is a catch. Even though the website has gone LIVE, there is not much you can see.

The reason, Tata wants 100,000 visitors, in order to unveil the full site. Once it has 1 lakh visitors, the official site will be fully revealed. As with recent websites of its individual cars, Tata Motors plans to get the buzz going around its soon to be launched Altroz.

It’s a trend Tata Motors has been diligently employing in trying to get enough curiosity around its new car launches. Tata Altroz is expected to be launched later this month, or early next month. With this, Tata will enter a new car segment ensuring its passenger car portfolio widens and reaches a larger audience.

Tata Altroz on test in Pune

The vehicle showcases the brand’s Impact 2.0 Design Language. Earlier in the year, Tata showcased its Altroz hatch at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show. At the time, the brand showcased a wide line-up of its new cars, including the Tata Altroz EV, Tata H2X Concept, its seven-seater SUV, Tata Buzzard based on the Tata Harrier 5 seater SUV, and Tata Buzzard Sport (Harrier for Europe).

As Tata Altroz undergoes its initial life cycle test runs, recent spyshots of a production ready vehicle have revealed how close to concept the vehicle is likely to look. Based on the ALFA platform, Altroz competes with the Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Hyundai Elite i20. With Tata’s new breed of cars, Tata has worked on creating new platforms that further the scope of various permutations and combinations.

Tata Altroz is expected to be offered in multiple power choices, one diesel and two petrol engine options. Tata Altroz premium hatchback will get a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that puts out 85 PS petrol engine.

The 1.5-litre that powers Nexon will be carried over. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol used in Nexon is also likely to be carried over and tuned differently for Altroz. Manual and AMT combinations are expected. Within the brand portfolio, Tata Altroz is going to find itself positioned between Tigor and Nexon.

As with all future ready vehicles, Tata Altroz compliancy with mandated BSVI norms that come into effect on April1, 2019 are a given. With auto industry sales moving at a snail’s pace in recent days, it will be interesting to see how market dynamics play out for a launch during difficult times.
