Growing radialisation creates opportunity in retreading. Apollo increases its focus through Apollo Retread Zone outlets.

Satish Sharma, President, Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, Apollo Tyres Ltd says the brand is a dominant player in the commercial vehicle segment in India. Apollo is committed to providing all around customer solutions. This includes retreading to enhance tyre life. Increased use in radial tyres in truck-bus segment has increased retreading potential. The company looks to meet this need through Apollo Retread Zone outlets.

Alongside providing infrastructural support for Apollo Retread Zone outlets, Apollo Tyres trains employees at its Retread Research and Training Centre in Chennai. To meet quality retread demand, the company looks forward to setting up 20 Apollo Retread Zone outlets in India by FY2015-16 end.

Truck-bus radials are capable of multiple retreads owing to a strong carcass. Retreading costs 25-27 pct of the cost of a new tyre, and offers nearly 90 pct of new tyre mileage. Retreading industry in India is growing into an organised sector, with preference for retread work done by tyre manufacturers, instead of unorganised players. Apollo Retread Zone outlets are already being operated in Jaipur and Chennai.
