Ashok Leyland, India’s second-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, has confirmed receipt of orders to the tune of 3,600 buses from State Transport Units. These deliveries will be effected in the current fiscal and will allow the company to augment is leadership position in the bus segment in the country.
Ashok Leyland has also announced increase in domestic market share which stood at 30.1% in Q1 2016 as against 29.2% in the same period last year. In the bus segment, market share stood at 35.9% in Q1 2016 as against 33.2% last year while in the M&HCV segment, market share of the company increased by 18.6% as against industrial growth of 14.5%.
Total M&HCV sales in May 2016 stood at 7,469 units in May 2016 as against sales of 6,888 units in May 2015 while LCV sales increased from 2,402 units in May 2015 to 2,406 units in May 2016 taking total sales during the month to 9,875 units.
Speaking of the company’s future plans, Mr. Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director of Ashok Leyland stated that expansion of networks, launch of new products and introduction of customer centric initiatives will allow the company to continue in a leadership position. Special focus on exports, defence and after market support will also continue to be a part of the company initiatives.
