Bengaluru based, electric scooter manufacturers, Ather Energy launched the Ather 340 and 450 electric scooters in Bengaluru last year. They are priced at Rs. 1.09 lakhs for the Ather 340 while price of the Ather 450 goes upto Rs.1.25 lakhs in Bengaluru. Today, Ather Energy launched the 450 electric scooter in Chennai, with prices starting from Rs 1.31 lakhs, on road.
The price includes road tax, insurance, Fame2 subsidy, smart card and two helmets. Ather only launched the 450, and not the 340 electric scooter in Chennai. Apart from launching scooter, they have also launched Ather One program. This is a charging and maintenance infrastructure. Under Ather One, you will get to charge your scooter unlimited number of times, get data and connectivity, scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, Labour charges and consumables. Ather One subscription cost starts from Rs 250 per month.
In case you don’t want to buy an Ather electric scooter, the company has also launched leasing program. You can lease Ather 450 electric scooter in Chennai. Price for the same starts from Rs 2,230 per month. This includes all maintenance, insurance, connectivity and software updates, fully refundable deposit. You will need to commit for a minimum of 12 months.
Ather 340 and Ather 450 are not only the most expensive scooters on sale in India but are also the most advanced scooters in the country. They come in with a host of features and offer a hassle free ownership experience unlike their conventional counterparts. The electric scooters receive features among which are a 7” tablet equipped SIM card with full time internet and offering on board navigation, 12” alloy wheels fitted with MRF tyres, disc brakes at both ends and suspensions via telescopic forks in the front and monoshock at the rear.
Ather 340 gets an electric motor offering 4.4kW peak power and 20 Nm torque. Acceleration from 0 to 40 kmph is achieved in 5.1 seconds while top speed is at 70 kmph with a full range of 60 km. Ather 450 on the other hand gets an electric motor capable of 5.4 kW power and 20.5 Nm torque. Acceleration from 0 to 40 kmph is possible in 3.9 seconds while top speed stands at 80 kmph and range at 75 km. These power and torque figures are higher than that seen on 200cc entry level performance bikes such as the KTM 200 Duke and Bajaj Pulsar 220.
A notable fact is that these prices for the two scooters from Ather Energy includes a home charging point or dedicated charging station for the Ather 450 with standard installation and charging cable. This is with a 1 years subscription and if purchased separately costs Rs.9,912 for a year or 2,596 per quarter. Ather Energy will either pay the public charging station if charging is done via a charging station or reimburse the owner every quarter, if charging is done via a home charger. Along with opening bookings for the two electric scooters in Chennai, Ather Energy also plans to inaugurate Ather Space experience center and will also provide free charging facilities to two other electric two or four wheelers in Chennai by the end of this year.
