Ather 450 scooter deliveries have now gotten underway in Chennai. Keeping in mind bookings, this week alone will see the EV manufacturer deliver about a 100 scooters to customers in the city. This comes along with a compact home charger, Ather Dot.
Tarun Mehta, Co-founder and CEO was present to handover keys to new owners at Chennai Ather Space. The company is investing in setting up fast charging infrastructure in Bangalore and Chennai. At present, the latter has ten fast charging points. More avenues will be functional in the next few months.
Ather has signed a MoU with Chai Kings to add charging points in 30 outlets across Chennai. Ather Grid Points can currently be accessed at Chai King outlets at Porur and Ekkattuthangal. This will enable Ather 450 owners to avail of free charging across the city until December 2019.
For now, charging points are spread across the city from Bikes & Burgers in Kolathur, to Forum Vijaya Mall, Vadapalani, to East Coast at Madras Square on ECR. Ather Energy opened pre-orders in early July 2019 for Chennai. Pre-orders are full till December 2019. Batch 3 bookings are ongoing, and these scooters will be delivered in February – March ’20.
Those who’re exploring EV options can book test rides at Ather Space, Nungambakkam. The centre also accepts bookings. The same can be done online. For those who don’t opt for an outright purchase, leasing a Ather 450 is an option. Following Bangalore, and Chennai, Ather Energy will launch in Hyderabad, Pune, Delhi and Mumbai.

Ather 450 is designed for city riding and can attain top speed of 80 km/hr. Drive range is pegged at 75 kms. The scooter takes 3.9 seconds to go from 0-40 km/hr. Smart features include parking assist to reverse into tight parking spots, and seamless charging. Ather 450 features a 7” touchscreen dashboard for onboard navigation with options of alternative routes and saved locations.
Ather app facilitates push navigation from the phone to the vehicle dashboard, remote monitoring of vehicle health, and charge status. Over-the-air (OTA) updates functionality helps adapt to upgrades in a seamless manner.
