Audi A3 debuts in Malaysia at an Outdoor Cinema event during Batman Trilogy Night

Speaking about the Audi A3 for Malaysia, it is ntroduced in two variants – 1.8 T Quattro trim and a 1.4 T front wheel drive. The new Audi A3 sedan is Audi’s answer to Mercedes-Benz CLA and the BMW 2 Series in Malaysia.

The 1.8T in Sport trim receives xenon headlights, front and rear parking sensors and sits on 17” Dynamic split spoke alloy wheels. Interiors sport Milano leather upholstery and leather wrapped three spoke steering wheel along with paddle shifters, electrically operated front seats and automatic lights and wipers.

Interiors also boast of dual zone automatic climate control, cruise control and stop start system besides Audi’s drive select system automatically adjusting throttle response and suspension.

Both variants will be powered by turbocharged direct injected four cylinder engine with the 1.4 liter engine producing 140 PS peak power from 5000-6000 rpm and 250 Nm torque from 1750-3000 rpm. The 1.8 liter engine is capable of 180 PS peak power from 5100-6200 rpm and 250 Nm torque from 1250-5000 rpm with both variants mated to a seven speed S tronic dual clutch transmission.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in the case of the 1.4T is achieved in 8.4 seconds while in the 1.8T the same is accomplished in 7.3 seconds. Top speed also varies to stand at 212 kmph in the 1.4 T and at 214 kmph in the 1.8T. Price was not revealed.

India should receive the Audi A3 sedan by August 2014, just ahead of the festive season. It will be launched as a CKD unit, and as far as competition is concerned, it will have none in the segment as it will be the first compact sedan to be launched in India by a luxury car maker. Mercedes Benz is expected to launch the CLA next year, which will compete with the Audi A3. Already spotted on test in India, engine options on offer will be 1.8l petrol and 2.0 diesel.
