The new A3 sedans is produced from the company plant in Gyor, Hungary for global consumption while it is produced at the Foshan plant in China for local China markets. For India, the A3 will be manufactured at their Aurangabad plant. Placed below the entry level Audi luxury sedan, the A4, A3 sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel engined options.
2014 Audi A3 sedan will have an overall length of 4.46 m and width of 1.8m. It will possess kerb weight of 1250 kgs and have a boot space of 425 liters. The model showcased at the Auto Expo was seen with a 1.8 liter TFSI engine mated to a 7 speed automatic transmission which on European cycles offers 180 hp and 250 Nm torque. A 2.0 liter TDI engine is also available in Europe offering 150 hp and 320 Nm torque while being mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox.
Apart from this, Audi also has the 1.4l TFSI, which is available in tunes of 140 PS and 122 PS. Exact variants for India will be revealed closer to launch. Audi has extensive plans for India and hopes to expand its dealer networks in India from a present 31 outlets to 40 so as to enhance their presence in the country and hold onto its leadership position. They continue to be India’s No 1 luxury car maker with a record performance in March 2014.
