The Audi A8 L Extended, a one-off luxury limousine with a seating capacity of 6, which was commissioned by a wealthy European customer has been revealed. Audi says that the custom job took almost a year to develop and build but now it has already received further requests for such one-off builds.
The A8 L Extended, as the name suggests, is a significantly longer version of the regular A8 L. The company’s engineers have worked on extending the car without compromising on the safety, rigidity and styling. The custom limo is longer than the production model by 1.09 m (additional length comes from an extended wheelbase) at 6.36 m. The car sports a wheelbase of 4.22 m.
The engineers have increased the length by extending the side sills and centre tunnel using extruded aluminium components. The rear bulkhead now has double layers to separate the passenger compartment from the boot. The extended roof gets aluminium profiled tubes and cross-braces so that the custom limo nearly has the same flexural and torsional rigidity as the production-spec A8 L. The silhouette has been redesigned to retain the A8’s understated character.
Inside, the extra real estate has been used to equip the car with an additional middle row of seats (identical to the regular version’s individual rear seats) which gets its own dedicated set of doors for easy ingress and egress.
Powering the Audi A8 L Extended is a 3.0-litre TFSI petrol engine which is mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission and quattro to develop 310 PS and 440 Nm of torque. 0-100 kmph is claimed to come in 7.1 seconds while the top speed is limited to 250 kmph.
