According to them, India is not yet ready for luxury small cars. People here, still prefer sedans and SUVs over hatchbacks for a price like that (Rs 22-25 lakhs). Or, in the words of Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, “Why buy an #AClass @23L (or any other hatch in the segment) when you can get a #Q3 2.0 diesel with 177 bhp quattro @27L.”
On the same lines, Audi India is preparing an entry level variant of their Q3, called Q3 Sport, reports Autocar India. The entry level Q3 Sport will be at a marked down price (about Rs 3.5 lakhs) as compared to the current entry level Q3 and will be brought to the country via the CKD – Completely Knocked Down route. To be assembled at the company’s Aurangabad facility, Q3 Sport will possess a 2.0 liter diesel engine with peak output of 140 bhp and peak torque of 320 Nm, while it will be mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. The Q3 Sport will give up its all wheel drive Quattro system for a front wheel drive layout, while also missing with be the distinctive Audi LED daytime running lights so as to contribute to lower pricing.
To be priced at around INR 25 lakhs, the Q3 Sport will be the least priced Audi car in Indian market, giving cars like Volvo V40 Cross Country, Mercedes Benz A Class, and yet to be launched B Class diesel and BMW 1 Series, a serious threat, even though it is not in the same segment.
Speaking about their new S6, earlier this year in May, Audi had revealed that they will give India the S4 in 4-6 weeks. We now expect that date to be 2nd July 2013.
