Audi Q2 for India teased before Launch – But it is not the Facelift

Audi Q2, the company’s smallest SUV, will be offered in 5 trims

Audi Q2 made its official debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Ever since, many fans in India have been waiting to get their hands on this SUV. Today, Audi India released a teaser video, which confirms the upcoming launch of this mini SUV.

Unfortunately, India will not get the latest Q2 SUV. Earlier this month, Audi revealed the facelifted Q2 for Europe. It will go on sale in Europe later this month. What India is getting, is the pre-facelift Audi Q2. Audi Q2 is positioned on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform with wheelbase measuring 2,601mm. It will stand 4,191mm in length, 1,794mm in width and 1,508mm in height.

Exteriors will be seen with a large single frame grille in black, distinctive LED headlamps and air intakes with silver accents. It will also receive black cladding on bumpers, wheel arches and running boards while at the rear it will be seen with a wide tail gate, square shaped tail lamps and distinctive Audi logo and badging. Take a look at the teaser video below.

Interiors of the Audi Q2 will feature sports seats with leather upholstery, an LED interior lighting package and illuminated inlays in 10 colour options. It will be seen with a three spoke multi function steering wheel, electrically adjustable driver seat with height adjustable, rear seats in a 60:40 split and infotainment via a 7 inch MMI screen and MMI controller; with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Boot space will stand at 405 liters for the front wheel drive variants while the Quattro all wheel drive will see boot space at 355 liters. The Audi Q2 will also receive a 12.3 inch Virtual Cockpit digital instrument console, a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting.

Engine and Price

Standard safety equipment will see six airbags, including front, side and curtain airbags, electronic stability control, traction control and ABS. Multi collision brake assist system and electronic stabilization control system will also be a part of the safety features to be seen on the new Audi Q2.

Audi Q2 for India
For India it will not be offered with TDI diesel engine

Audi Q2 will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbo petrol engine offering 190 hp power and 320 Nm torque mated to a 7 speed dual clutch automatic transmission with Audi’s Quattro all wheel drive system. This would allow acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.5 seconds to hit a top speed of 228 kmph.

Audi Q2 is expected to be priced in the Rs 35-40 lakhs range, as it will be coming in as a CBU. There are no direct rivals for Q2 in India. But considering that Audi does not offer the Q3 anymore in India; it will be Q2’s job to be a rival to the likes of BMW X1, Volvo XC40 and Mercedes GLA – all of which are larger in size than the Q2. With the launch of Q2, Audi might be hoping to increase sales, which have been badly affected due to the ongoing pandemic.
