The Audi Q2 mini premium crossover has been teased for the second time ahead of its world premiere at the fast approaching 2016 Geneva Motor Show. With the Q2, the German automaker would be inventing a new entry level segment in the luxury space. Rivals Mercedes-Benz and BMW are not known to be working on such a model, at least not as of now.
The teaser images show the car under a grey veil. The LED headlamps and taillights are illuminated, giving us a fair idea about their designs. Closer observation reveals that the crossover gets a very sharp front grille with an embossed four-ring badge. The neat silhouette appears to have been inspired by the Q7. The tapered rear windshield adds to the design.
The Q2’s styling is lead by Audi’s new design chief Marc Lichte who floated a new language that was previewed by the Prologue concept. The interior too is expected to adopt the clean and sophisticated nature of the exterior.
The Audi Q2 is based on VW Group’s MQB platform that also underpins the A3 sedan. Powertrain lineup will comprise a set of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines mated to manual and DSG automatic transmissions. Both FWD and Quattro AWD variants will be on offer.
The mini crossover is expected to go on sale in Europe shortly after its Geneva debut. We expect the new Audi to reach India sometime in 2017.
