Audi Q3 is currently available for a price of about Rs 26.7 lakh for 2.0 TFSI petrol and about Rs 27.4 lakh for 2.0 TDI diesel model. But both these models are sold in India as CBUs (completely built units). With Q3S, Audi India will start local assembling, this will reduce the price tag to a considerable margin, as duty attracted by CBUs is much higher as compared to those by CKDs (completely knocked down units).
Q3S will not feature an automatic gearbox, nor it will have a quattro all wheel drive system. It will feature a 6 speed manual gearbox and a front wheel drive system. Only diesel engine option is to be offered. This will be in the form of a 2.0L TDI, but it is not rated same as that of current Q3, which offers 177 hp.
Diesel engine of Q3S will offer 140 hp, but there will hardly be any impact on performance when compared to Q3 177hp, as overall weight is at 1445 kgs, which is about 140 kgs lesser than Q3. Airbags and ABS will come standard, and so will the steering mounted controls, music system, electronically adjustable driver seat, infotainment display and much more. Price will be revealed at the launch which will take place at Audi Delhi Central.
Considering that Audi India does not have a hatchback offering like the Mercedes Benz A Class, B Class, or soon to be launched BMW 1 Series, Q3S will be priced aggressively so as to ward off competition from premium hatchbacks. Though Audi has maintained their No 1 position so far in 2013, they were beaten by Mercedes Benz India for July 2013, who offer 4 models in the Rs 21-22 lakh range.
UPDATE: Audi India launched Q3S for Rs 24.99 lakh ex-Delhi.
