Audi Q8 SUV to compete with Range Rover by 2017: New Q7 to get lighter by 300 kgs


Volkswagen’s luxury brand, Audi is fast climbing ladders in the premium car segment, which is very well noticed by rivals, BMW and Mercedes Benz. Not many years ago, Audi was not even considered as a competitor by BMW and Mercedes Benz, but today, its very capable of toppling both of its compatriot competitors not only in the Indian auto industry, but globally.

It is now reported that Audi will be launching a new segment of SUV’s in the Q Series lineup itself. These new Q Series will be christened as Q2, Q4, Q6 and Q8. All these versions will be even more sportier than the current Q models on offer. In this new Q lineup, it will be Q8 that will first appear. A new report by CAR magazine suggests that Audi has been given the permission by its parent, VW Group, to go ahead and develop a new SUV that will most probably be named as Q8.

The new Audi Q8 will be based on the next gen platform that will also develop the new Q7, Touareg and Cayenne. The new Q8 should be ready by 2017 and once launched, will compete with Land Rover’s Range Rover SUV, which by many, is considered the ultimates SUV in the world today. The same surces also add that the Q8 will have an annual production capacity of 25,000 units.

Audi will launch the new Q8 with a choice of V8’s and V6 in petrol and diesel options. Talking about the next gen Q7, the source says that thanks to the new platform, next gen Q7 will be lighter, faster and more efficient than the current model. New Audi Q7 will be lighter by as much as 300 kgs (660 pounds).
