Bajaj Auto has announced that it has achieved market leadership in the Indian entry and sports two wheeler segment combined during the first 9 months of FY2016. Successful launches in entry level and sports segment in 2015 has resulted in significant improvements in market share.
Thanks to good sales performance of the new entry level bikes like new Platina and CT 100, the company’s market share in the segment increased from 23% to 36% in the April-December 2015 period. The company sold 6.81 lakh units of commuter motorcycles in the first 9 months of FY2016 as against 3.83 lakh units during the same period in FY2015, registering an impressive growth of 77% in this space.
The launch of sports motorcycles like Pulsar RS 200, AS 200, AS 150 and new Avenger series also had a very positive effect on the company’s sales. In the November-December 2016 period, the company’s market share in the sports segment (under INR 1 lakh) has reached 53% with the newly launched Avenger variants proving to be the rockstars. Production capacity of the Avengers will be increased to 30,000 units per month starting form March 2016.
Bajaj Auto now claims a market share of 36% in the combined entry and sports segment, making it the leader. According to the automaker, these two segments make up for 43% of the entire Indian two wheeler market.

Looking ahead at the 2016 calendar year, the company is planning to retaining its leadership in the entry and sports segment while replicating the success in the executive segment.
