Bajaj car accident dies

Mumbai Pune Expressway claimed two more lives on Sunday.

Amrut Kumar Rath, 47, President of Human Resources at Bajaj Auto Limited and his wife Padmaja 45 died in a car crash on the Mumbai Pune Expressway on Sunday. Their two children, daughter Adisha 18 and son Alman 10 who were also travelling in the same car, have suffered serious injuries.

The Highway Safety Patrol of Pune and Lonavala police rushed the family to Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi where Rath and his wife breathed their last while the children are undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit. They are said to be stable.

The Rath family resides in Wakad and was returning to Pune from Mumbai after dropping Rath’s sister. Rath lost control of the BMW in which they were travelling when it hit a median near Malavli (Lonavala), around 60 kms from Pune. The police claim that it was raining heavily in the area that morning while there was only a slight drizzle at the time of the accident.

The bodies of both Amrut Kumar Rath and his wife Padmaja were later sent to the Yeshwant Chavan Memorial Hospital for post mortem. Adisha is being treated for dislocated hip and pelvic injuries while Alman has fractured his right femur while he has also suffered some abdominal trauma. Both children were conscious and in a stable condition at the time of admission
