The new Bajaj Chetak will be retailed through KTM dealerships. First two cities where sales will start are Pune and Bengaluru, before expanding to key metros.

Bajaj Chetak has made a comeback in the country after 14 years, albeit as an electric avatar. This new electric scooter has been officially launched in the country and besides going on sale in India will also be exported to European markets, most likely from 2021. On sale via KTM dealerships of which there are 5 in Pune and 13 in Bengaluru, the Chetak e-scooter is the company’s first all electric two wheeler.

Bajaj Chetak e-scooter is priced at Rs.1 lakhs for the base Urbane variant going up to Rs.1.15 lakhs for the Premium trim. Bookings have opened at company websites at a down payment of Rs.2,000 with deliveries to commence from February.

But, it is only the more expensive Premium variant which will be delivered from next month. The more affordable, Rs 1 lakh variant of Chetak will only be delivered from May 2020.

Test drives will be available from later this month. Initially, it will be sold only in Pune and Bengaluru; before being expanded to other cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. The Pune KTM dealerships are located at Wakdewadi, Kharadi, Chakan, FC Road and Bund Garden while it Bengaluru they are at Indiranagar, HRBR Layout, Langford Road, Marathahalli, Rajajinagar, Yelahanka, Bannerghatta, Whitefield, Mekhri Circle, Electronic City, Chandra Layout, BTM layout and Banashankari.

Bajaj Chetak e-scooter gets a steel frame and sheet metal body. It sits on 12” alloy wheels and gets eye catching features. These include a digital instrument cluster with satin chrome bezel, LED headlamps with a horseshoe shaped DRL, LED turn indicators, LED blinkers and the Chetak “C” logo positioned at strategic places though the Bajaj branding is missing. The Bajaj Chetak base variant is presented in colour options of Cyber White and Citrus White while the top of the line variant gets 4 colour options. The Chetak Electric will also get a dedicated smartphone Chetak app to indicate range, battery percentage and location.

The e-scooter is powered by an IP-67 rated lithium ion battery which comes in with 3 years/50,000 km warranty. It can be charged via a 5-15 amp outlet in a matter of 5 hours or upto 25 percent in 60 minutes. It does not get fast charging option. Bajaj Chetak is fitted with a single sided tubular suspension in the front and monoshock at the rear while braking is via disc brake in the front and drum brake at the rear. Base variant does not get disc brake option. It also receives a regenerative braking system. The Chetak gets Eco and Sport mode with range in Eco mode at 95 kgs going down to 85 kms in Sport mode.
