Bajaj Dominar 400 gets ready for the Himalaya(n) – Modified touring accessories
Bajaj Dominar 400 is priced from INR 1.36 lakh, ex-showroom for the non-ABS variant.
What was previewed as Pulsar CS400 concept at the 2014 Auto Expo, is launched as Bajaj Dominar 400. This new motorcycle is the most advanced, most powerful, and the fastest Bajaj till date. Bajaj Dominar 400 is powered by a 373.27cc single cylinder engine from the KTM Duke 390. The triple spark DTSi engine is reportedly capable of 34.51 hp power and 35 Nm torque via mated to a 6 speed gearbox. The engine is tuned to deliver less power and more torque, as compared to the Duke 390.
Designed as a sports tourer, Rajiv Bajaj has launched the Dominar to take on the might of Royal Enfield in the 300-500 cc segment. In fact, he has stated that riders who prefer to go slow, can opt Royal Enfield, while those who want to go fast, can always have the Dominar 400.
We have ridden the Dominar 400, and there is hardly anything going against the bike. Now, to make the deal even sweeter, folks at Sahyadri Moto (aftermarket adventure touring motorcycle accessories design, manufacture, fitting) have revealed their version of Dominar 400 – shodded with important mods and accessories one will be needing when out on a long tour. This has been done so as to give the bike a characteristic of a cruiser, rather than that of an all-out sporty monster. If you look at the images, it is clearly visible that Sahyadri has designed the bike to be best used as a long distance tourer.

Highlights of Bajaj Dominar 400 include headlamp with 7 LEDs and a single halogen, LED side blinkers, LED taillights, telescopic forks in the front and mono shock rear suspension along with single front and rear disc brakes, dual channel ABS, digital instrument console, relaxed seating position, split seats, and a large fuel tank.
Bajaj Dominar 400 is priced perfectly to take on the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Classic 500, two of their best selling motorcycles. Rajiv Bajaj aims to capture 20% market share in the segment (INR 1-2 lakh), of which RE holds 80%. Though the Dominar is not exactly a Royal Enfield rival, it is priced in such a way that it is predominantly going to entice RE buyers.
