Last month, Rajiv Bajaj sent shockwaves in the two wheeler industry when he launched the Dominar 400 at a starting price of INR 1.36 lakh, es-showroom. Never before was a bike from 400 cc segment this affordable.
Rajiv Bajaj was clear with the strategy of Dominar 400. It is a bike which is being sold in the INR 1-2 lakh segment. This segment sees 80% sales of Royal Enfield bikes, remaining is by other players. Bajaj aims to eat into RE’s share, and acquire a solid 20% stake in this segment. With this kind of pricing, they might be on their way of acquiring way more than that.
Anyways, enthusiasts have been waiting for the Dominar 400 ever since it was shown as a concept back in 2014. With bookings open since 15th Dec 2016, deliveries only began recently, bringing an end to the long wait. Sadly, the bike is not available in all Indian cities. It is only on sale in 22 Indian cities. Below are the cities in which the Dominar is on sale, along with the price tag in that city.
|City||Bajaj Dominar 400 Non ABS||Bajaj Dominar 400 ABS|
* All prices above are ex-showroom prices in INR lakh.
Bajaj Dominar 400 is offered in two variants – ABS and non-ABS. The bike is seen with a stylish new design, aggressive front-end and sharp headlamp design. Bajaj Dominar 400 sports a twin instrument console setup, like the one we have seen on Ducati Diavel. It has one display mounted on the headlamp console and the other on the fuel tank.
Dominar 400 shares some components with RS200 so as to keep prices at affordable levels. It is powered by the same engine as seen on KTM Duke 390 and RC390. This engine is a 373cc, 4-valve, single cylinder, liquid cooled offering 35 bhp power and 35 Nm torque mated to a 6-speed transmission. Top speed stands at 165+ kmph.
