The Bajaj Pulsar 125 BS6 is currently sold only in ‘Neon’ variants at a starting price of roughly Rs 70,000 ex-showroom
Bajaj Auto’s popular Pulsar series of sports commuters have been on the Indian market for almost two decades. Over the years, it has gone through various revisions alongside new model additions. Almost all of them have become BS6-compliant as well. As of now, the range extends to nine models across 125-200cc categories. At the very base sits the Bajaj Pulsar 125 Neon BS6, at a starting price of roughly Rs 70,000 ex-showroom.
For the 2020 model year, Bajaj’s entry-level Pulsar model comes in both drum and disc (single unit) formats. It looks almost similar to the higher Bajaj Pulsar 150. The ‘Neon’ tag signifies its exclusive paint schemes with popping accents. There are three colour choices: Neon Blue (matte grey + plain blue), Solar Red (gloss black + plain red) and Platinum Silver (gloss black + silver).
The Chakan-based two-wheeler manufacturer had previously sold the Bajaj Pulsar 125 in BS4-compliant ‘Split Seat’ format. However, sales were limited to just a few markets such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and certain Northeastern states. It sat above the 125 Neon BS4 at a premium of almost Rs 4,000. Now, Bajaj has started issuing BS6 2020MY Pulsar 125 Split Seat units to some parts of its wide dealership network.
Apart from simpler graphics, the Bajaj Pulsar 125 Spit Seat is nearly identical to its ‘150’ counterpart. It comes in the motorcycle series’ mainstream colour themes such as black/red, black/blue and full-black. Compared to the existing BS6 Neon avatar, the Pulsar 125 Split Seat packs an engine cowl, extra stickers, split grab rails and as its name suggests, dual-seat configuration. Common features include ‘wolf-eyed headlamps’, split-LED taillamp, clip-on handlebars, 6-spoke alloy wheels, tubeless tyres (80/100R17 and 100/90R17), 240mm front discs, Anti-Skid braking (combi-braking), 5-step Nitrox rear shock absorbers, etc. The motorcycle weighs 140kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres.
Powered by the same BS6-compliant 124.4cc air-cooled FI DTS-i single-cylinder engine, the new Bajaj Pulsar 125 generates almost 12bhp @ 8,500rpm and 11Nm @ 6,500rpm. This makes it the most powerful 125cc offering in India’s commuter segment. The power plant is mated to a 5-speed transmission.
One can expect it to be launched at a price tag of around Rs 72,000-74,000 ex-showroom as against the former figure of Rs 71,000. The higher pricing is a result of the extensive re-engineering done to the engine and exhaust system to make it compliant to stringent BS6 emission norms.
