Benelli 302S debuts – Is a rival to KTM Duke 390, Yamaha R3

Earlier this year it was reported that Benelli is working on new motorcycles, keeping countries like India in mind. At the 2017 EICMA show, they showcased two such products, one was the Benelli TNT 200 (KTM Duke 200 rival) and the second is the Benelli 302S. Powered by the same twin cylinder 300 cc engine which is seen on board the Tornado 302R, the new Benelli 302S is a naked street bike.

The twin cylinder engine delivers 38 PS power at 11,000 rpm and 25.6 Nm of torque at 9,750 rpm. The FI engine is mated to a 6 speed gearbox. The engine is EURO 4 compatible (which is same as BS4 in India). It emits 99 gms of carbon emission per km and claims to deliver a fuel efficiency of 23.25 kmpl.

Built on a steel trestle in steel tubes chassis, new Benelli 302S features LED headlight, LED turn indicators, LED taillight, LED DRLs on tank extensions, and a fully digital instrument console. Suspension setup in the front is in the form of 41 mm upside down forks with 135 mm travel, while rear suspension is a monoshock with spring preload adjustment (46 mm travel).

Braking in the front is via 260 mm double discs with 4 pistons calliper while at the rear is a single 240 mm disc. Dual channel ABS is standard. It gets 17 inch alloys finished in matte black. Front tyre is 120/70 while rear tyre is 160/60. These radial tyres have Z speed rating, means it can handle speeds of up to 149 mph or 240 kmph (Please note that this is not the top speed of the bike, it is the speed rating of the tyres).

Benelli 302S is 2130 mm long, 800 mm wide, and 1120 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 1410 mm, seat height is at 795 mm and a ground clearance of 175 mm. Fuel tank capacity stands at 16 liters including 3 liter reserve. It has a road ready weight of 203 kgs (including all fluids and 90% fuel).

Back in July this year, the Benelli 302R fully faired sports bike was launched in India at a starting price of Rs 3.48 lakh. Expect the naked version of the same to be launched in India at a price range of Rs 3 lakh. This will be a good pricing for a twin cylinder naked bike which potentially rivals the likes of KTM Duke 390, Yamaha R3, Ninja 300 etc.
