Benelli TRK 302 adventure tourer (RE Himalayan rival) in the works?
The new product is likely to employ Benelli's existing 300 cc parallel-twin unit.
With the compact sportbike segment showing promising potential across the world, manufacturers are focusing significant resources on increasing the number of offerings in this space. A recent report says that Chinese-owned Italian sportsbike brand Benelli is working on a 300 cc adventure tourer which will lock horns with the likes of BMW G310GS and the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure.
Nothing much about the new Benelli adventure tourer is known as of now but it is expected to adopt the brand’s existing 300 cc parallel twin liquid-cooled motor which powers the Tornado 302. The engine would be tuned to generate higher low end torque to suit the new application.
The report also says that the new tourer will benefit from a new chassis, sub-frames, suspension system and instrument console. Styling could be derived from the larger TRK 502.
Before the entry of Royal Enfield Himalayan, the Indian two wheeler market had been deprived of compact and affordable adventure tourers. Now, it seems, we are in for an avalanche of such products. Apart from KTM 390 Adventure, BMW G310GS and Benelli TRK 302 (as we would like to call it), there is also a high possibility that Honda’s XRE 300 is on its way to our shores.
Benelli TRK 302 adventure tourer is expected to be ready sometime next year. Like other products in the Italian brand’s portfolio, we can expect the new model to be assembled locally in India by DSK-Benelli.
