Bentley Bentayga sold out for 2016; Queen Elizabeth II is the first customer

Bentley was not kidding when it kept saying that it has enough buyers lined up to justify the production of its first ever SUV. According to a report in Autocar UK, the controversial Bentley Bentayga has been sold out fully for its first year of production. If you pay your deposit for the 160,200 pound (around INR 1.64 cr) luxury SUV now, you will have to wait at least till 2017.

Reports say that Bentley’s Crewe manufacturing facility has a capacity to build 3,000 – 4,500 units of the Bentayga per year, suggesting that initial response from customers is overwhelming, especially considering its eye watering price tag.

When Bentley first announced its intentions of making a high riding luxury edifice on wheels through its EXP-9F concept at the Geneva Motor Show 2012, it received negative reactions for the proposed design. Unshakable was the British marque’s conviction that it decided to revisit the drawing board and refine the aesthetics.

Bentley describes the Bentayga’s interior as the finest automotive cabin in the world.

The result is the Bentayga which is claimed to be the most powerful, most luxurious and fastest SUV in the world. Underpinned by the VW Group’s multimaterial MLB modular architecture, the uber luxurious British automobile is propelled by a 6.0-litre W12 petrol engine which puts out a surplus 608 PS and 900 Nm of torque. Top speed stands at 301 kmph!

It’s only fitting then that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is set to become the very first customer of the Bentley Bentayga. She is expected to use the car at her Balmoral holiday estate in Scotland for hunting expeditions.
