Best selling 10 SUVs for April 2019 – Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV300

April 2019 list of top 10 bestselling SUVs is making Mahindra proud, as XUV300 has zoomed past many of its rivals to grab the fourth place in the list. And the fact that XUV300 has achieved it in just around 2 months goes on to show that Mahindra has finally hit bull’s eye in the highly competitive compact SUV segment. Mahindra’s earlier attempts to grab a foothold in this space had all but failed even when it had launched fairly decent products such as TUV300 and NuvoSport.

Soon after launch, Mahindra XUV300 had raced ahead of rivals such as Ford EcoSport and Honda WR-V. It had received 10,000 bookings in the immediate period after launch, which helped the SUV to be ranked fourth in the list of bestselling SUVs. It was trailing behind Tata Nexon for some time, but now that’s also in its rear-view mirror. Mahindra XUV300 sold 4,200 units in April whereas Tata Nexon sales were at 3,976 units.

At 11,785 units in April, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza continues to be the bestselling SUV in the country. It was the bestselling SUV in FY2018 and FY2019 as well, with sales of 1,48,462 and 1,57,880 units respectively. Trailing close by is Hyundai Creta with sales of 10,487 units in April. Creta was at second spot in FY18 and FY19, with sales of 1,07,136 and 1,24,300 units respectively.

On the 3rd position was Mahindra Bolero with 5,310 units sold. It is also the one which posted among the highest decline in sales. At sixth position is Mahindra Scorpio with sales of 3,930 units in April. Next-gen Scorpio is currently undergoing field tests and will be launched in 2020. New Scorpio will be longer, wider and stronger yet lighter than its predecessor. 2020 Scorpio is being developed by Mahindra’s global teams in India and US. Design inputs are being provided by Mahindra-owned Italian car design firm Pininfarina.

With sales of 3,191 units, Ford EcoSport is at 7th place. The other SUVs in the list are Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (2,163 units), Tata Harrier (2,075), Honda WR-V (1,604) and Mahindra XUV500 (1,508) at 8, 9, 10 and 11th place.

The best selling SUV list will most likely undergo another change in the coming months, as two new SUVs which have the potential to enter this list are going to be launched soon. First is Hyundai Venue sub 4 meter SUV. Hyundai aims to sell 10k units of this SUV ever month. It will launch on 21st May, tomorrow. 2nd is MG Hector, of which the company aims to sell about 3k units a month. If both these new SUVs manage to achieve their target, both of them will appear in the list of best selling SUVs in India.
