Top 20 cars sold during October 2016 – Honda City beats Maruti Ciaz

Though the festive season during October 2016 was supposed to bring in new car purchases and manufacturers were looking forward to outstanding sales, sales were not as positive as expected causing some disappointment among automakers in India.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the largest carmaker in India saw 11 of its cars on the list of top 20 cars sold in the country in the past month. Alto, DZire, WagonR and Swift once again claimed top 4 positions on the list of best-sellers last month while sales dipped 18%, 27% and 17% respectively where Alto, DZire and Swift were concerned.

Maruti Baleno, sold through premium network of NEXA showrooms, featured at 7th position with 10,718 units sold, up 153% while Vitata Brezza compact SUV launched in 2016, was added to the list in 8th place with 10,056 units sold. Maruti Suzuki Celerio at No. 10 position was up 44% with 9,581 units sold in October 2016 as against 6,664 units sold in October 2015. Maruti Suzuki Omni at No. 13 experienced a 3% increase in sales from 6,816 units sold in October 2015 to 6,987 units sold in the past month.

In a surprise move, Honda City sales overtook those of Maruti Ciaz with 6,378 units sold against 6,360 units of the Ciaz while Maruti Eeco and Ertiga in 19th and 20th position respectively experienced a dip in sales by 15% and 3% as against sales in October 2015.

Hyundai Grand i10 and Elite i20 noted good increase in sale during October 2016 positioned in 5th and 6th place respectively along with the Creta in 11th position. Renault Kwid at No. 9 on the list of best sellers experienced an 89% increase in sales from 5,195 units sold in October 2015 to 9,801 units sold in the past month. Tata Motor saw its recently launched Tiago on the list of top 20 cars sold in October 2016 at No. 17, with 6,108 units sold.
