Maruti Suzuki India Limited claimed a 52.5% market share in sale of passenger cars during September 2018. The company sold a total of 1,51,512 units during the past month with the Swift, Baleno, Brezza and Celerio remaining top sellers.
Maruti Swift noted a 68% increase in sales with 22,228 units sold in September 2018 as compared to 13,193 units sold in the same month of the previous year. Alto and DZire, in second and third position on the list of top 25 cars sold during September, noted a 9% and 38% dip in sales respectively while sales of the Baleno and Vitara Brezza surged 15% and 9%.
Baleno sales stood at 18,631 units in September 2018 while Vitara Brezza sales were at 14,425 units. WagonR sales also dipped 10% from 14,649 units sold in September 2017 to 13,252 units sold in the past month. Maruti Suzuki Celerio sales were in top form with a 92% increase from 4,797 units sold in September 2017 to 9,208 units in the past month. Maruti Eeco, Omni, Ciaz and the Ertiga also featured on the list of top 25 cars sold last month.
Hyundai Motors India had the i20 Elite at No. 7 on the list of best selling cars during the past month. Sales of the i20 Elite increase 7% from 11,574 units sold in September 2017 to 12,380 units sold in the past month. At No. 8, Hyundai i10 Grand sales however diminished 20% from 14,099 units sold in September 2017 to 11,224 units in the past month. Hyundai Creta sales surged 18% from 9,292 units sold in September 2017 to 11,000 units sold last month. Hyundai Eon, Xcent and Verna also featured on the list at Nos. 19,21 and 25.
Mahindra Bolero and Scorpio at Nos.15 and 22 noted a 21% and 37% dip in sales respectively. Bolero sales stood at 8,930 units in September 2017 falling to 7,046 units in the past month. Likewise, sales of the Scorpio which stood at 6,260 units in September 2017 fell to 3,941 units last month.
Tata Tiago sales increased 1% to 8,377 units in September 2018 as compared to 8,316 units sold in the same month of the previous year. Sales of Nexon increased 55% from 2,772 units sold in September 2018 to 4,297 units sold in the past month.
Honda noted a significant increase in Amaze sales by a whopping 228% from 2,561 units sold in September 2017 to 8,401 units sold in September 2018. Toyota had the Innova Crysta at No. 16 with a total of 6,477 units sold in September 2018, up 2% as compared to 6,327 units sold in September 2017. Renault Kwid at No. 18 noted a 39% dip in sales from 9,099 units sold in September 2017 to 5,529 units sold in the past month. Ford also had the EcoSport at No. 24 with a 23% dip in sales from 4,934 units sold in September 2017 to 3,789 units sold last month.
