While slowdown continues to nudge sales south, there’s some improvement, as most of the bestselling cars have registered positive MoM growth in September 2019. Festive mood and attractive schemes announced by car companies appear to have helped improve sales in September. A lot more can be expected in October when festivities reach their peak around the time of Diwali.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire leads the pack, registering sales of 15,662 units in September 2019. This is a 17.99% improvement in MoM sales, even though YoY sales are down -26.46%. Dzire was the top selling car in August 2019 also with 13,274 units sold. At second spot is Maruti Alto with sales of 15,079 units in September 2019. At 48.96%, Alto is the biggest gainer in terms of MoM sales. However, YoY sales are down -30.57%.

Maruti Swift takes the third place with sales of 12,934 units in September 2019. Its MoM sales have improved 3.94%, but YoY sales continue to be a disappointment at -41.81%. Next on the list is Maruti WagonR with sales of 11,757 units in September 2019. MoM sales have improved by 3.06% whereas YoY sales are down -11.28%. WagonR will soon be getting an electric variant, the first EV to be launched by Maruti Suzuki.

Fifth spot is taken by Maruti Baleno with sales of 11,420 units in September 2019. MoM gains are 3.19% whereas YoY sales are down -38.70%. Baleno is the top selling car from Nexa dealerships, which recently crossed collective sales of 10 lakh units.

At number 6, we have Maruti Brezza, which is another major gainer in terms of MoM sales. Brezza sold 10,362 units in September 2019, a whopping 45.76% increase in MoM sales. Another victory for Brezza is that it has regained its title of top selling compact SUV. It was earlier unseated from the top spot by Hyundai Venue.

At number 7, Hyundai i20 has registered sales of 10,141 units in September 2019. i20 has made an impressive 43.42% MoM gain even though YoY sales are down -18.09% in September 2019. At number 8 is Maruti Eeco, the only car to register positive MoM and YoY growth. Eeco September sales are 9,949 units, an improvement of 14.91% MoM and 35.29% YoY.

At ninth spot is Hyundai Grand i10 with sales of 9,358 units in September 2019. This is -0.48% and -16.63% drop in MoM and YoY sales, respectively. Number 10 in the list is Hyundai Venue that appears to be losing steam after a brilliant initial run. Venue MoM sales are down -14.99%, from 9,342 units in August 2019 to 7,942 units in September 2019. Grand i10 and Venue are the only two cars in the top 10 list to register negative MoM growth.
