BlaBlaCar conforms to Delhi odd-even rule

In compliance of the State Government’s proposed odd-even car formula, BlaBlaCar, which launched services across India early this year, has stated that the company will allow persons to show availability on specific dates depending on their number plates. This will work in compliance to the Delhi odd-even car formula and to the advantage of both driver and passenger.

With already 1 million seats being offered through this platform in India BlaBlaCars has extended this scheme to their entire range of vehicles in Delhi. The rule is being implemented from January 1, 2016 and will be reviewed after the first 15 days.

The plan is to allow vehicle with licence plates ending with odd and even dates to ply on alternate dates. Besides BlaBlaCar, other taxi aggregators such as Uper and Ola are also planning similar initiatives while Uber is also contemplating private car owners to enter into car pooling through its platform.

With nearly 19 lakh private four wheelers registered in Delhi, half of these will go off the roads once this Delhi odd-even car formula comes into effect from January 1, 2016. This will ensure a drastic reduction in both traffic flow and pollution levels in the city while the government is stepping up public transport infrastructure as well with 4,000 buses being pressed into service.

The government has yet to take a decision on private four wheelers entering the capital from surrounding regions of Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Sonipat while decision on 57 lakh bikes and scooters will also have to be finalized.
