2019 Tata Tiago NRG AMT launch price Rs 6.15 L for 1.2L petrol engine

Last week, we reported that Tata Motors is set to overhaul the variant lineup of the Tiago hatchback. The changes appear to the company’s reaction to customer feedback. The new variant lineup has three new petrol AMT variants including the Tiago NRG A which is priced at Rs 6.15 lakhs.

For a premium of Rs 45,000, the new NRG variant adds the automated manual transmission as well a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system from Harman with Android Auto and Apply CarPlay. The rest of the equipment list is similar to the manual variant.

The Tata Tiago NRG is essentially a rugged version of the small car. The NRG features black plastic cladding all around, front and rear skid pates, blacked out grille, roof rails, dual-tone alloy wheels and so on. At 180 mm, the Tiago NRG rides 10 mm higher than the regular Tiago.

Like the regular hatchback, the NRG is powered by the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and 1.05-liter three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engines. The petrol unit develops 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque while the oil burner is capable of 70 PS and 140 Nm of torque. The latter is available only with a manual transmission.

The automaker has also quietly axed the Tiago XT variants, added new features to the XZ trim and introduced XZA+ trim. The new XZA+ is priced at Rs 6.15 lakhs (ex-showroom). Dual-tone roof adds Rs 7,000 to the price tag.

With the variant rejig, the Tata Tiago now offers dual airbags, ABS with EBD, CSC (Corner Stability Control), front passenger seat belt warning, reverse parking sensors, and speed alert system as standard fitment. The update enhances the Tiago’s appeal against its rivals Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10 and Datsun Go.

Tata Motors is working on a mid-life refresh for the Tiago and Tigor. The spy shots suggest that the updated twins will feature minor styling revisions at the front. We also expect the facelifted models to offer added equipment and BS-VI compliant powertrain. The 1.05-liter diesel engine is likely to be discontinued since updating it to the new emission standard would lead to significant increase in cost. Moreover, roughly 80% demand for both Tiago and Tigor is accounted for by the petrol variants.
