2016 BMW 1 Series sedan spy shots, expected engine options listed
2016 BMW 1 Series sedan spy shots show the heavily disguised test mule, borrowing a variety of design cues from the recently unveiled 1 Series facelift (hatchback). While 1 Series hatchback remains the only car in its segment to offer Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) configuration, new 1 Series sedan will be a Front Wheel Drive (FWD) car.
This is because BMW 1 Series sedan will be based on the UKL platform that supports 2-Series Active Tourer and 2-Series Gran Tourer. But the lack of Rear Wheel Drive could be compensated with All Wheel Drive (AWD) option on higher variants.
Like the offer of AWD, powertrain options are also not confirmed yet. But there are only so many engines BMW can plonk into the 1 Series sedan, as follows:
1.5 litre 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine producing 136 PS max power and 220 Nm peak torque.
2.0 litre 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo motor generating 192 PS and 280 Nm.
2.0 litre 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo unit pushing out 231 PS and 350 Nm.
1.5 litre 3-cylinder TwinPower Turbo mill churning out 116 PS and 270 Nm.
2.0 litre 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo machine giving output of 150 PS and 330 Nm.
2.0 litre 4-cylinder TwinPower Turbo mill dishing out 190 PS and 400 Nm.
