BMW 8 Series comprises the company’s range of flagship sedans. In international markets, there are three models on sale, Convertible, Gran Coupe, and M Sport model. India gets the 4-door Gran Coupe and its higher-spec sibling, the M8 Competition Coupe. BMW is unlikely to launch the 2-door convertible in the Indian market. The 8 Series Gran Coupe is easily noticeable by its large size, measuring more than 5 meters in length and almost 2 meters wide.

Talking about design and styling, both 8 Series Gran Coupe and M8 Coupe share several common features. The aggressive profile is clearly evident with the sleek swept-back headlamps, sculpted bonnet with distinctive character lines, prominent kidney grille, aerodynamic creases on the sides, sporty exhaust tips and trendy split tail lamps. Features that give M8 Coupe its distinctive profile include the uniquely shaped front bumper, larger air intakes and sportier alloy wheels.

The biggest difference between the two cars lies under the hood. The 8 Series Gran Coupe launched in India is the 840i trim that is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo, inline six-cylinder engine. The engine can generate max power of 335 bhp and max torque of 499 Nm. In comparison, BMW M8 Coupe is powered by a 4.4-litre twin-turbo, V-8 engine that outputs 523 bhp and 750 Nm. It also comes with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system. Other equipment like 8-speed sport automatic transmission, launch control system and paddle shifters are common to both cars.

In terms of performance, the M8 Coupe scores higher than the 8 Series Gran Coupe. If we talk about acceleration, for example, the M8 Coupe can reach 0 to 96.5 km/h in just 3.7 seconds as compared to 4.9 seconds taken by 8 Series Gran Coupe.

Both cars offer a range of advanced features such as a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit, large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, head-up display, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, four zone climate control system, 14-way powered front seats and dynamic cruise control system. The infotainment system is equipped with iDrive interface that can recognize gestures.
