BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe unveiled, to compete with Mercedes Benz CLS (Photos)
BMW has officially unveiled their all new 6 Series Gran Coupe. The new 4 door coupe is specially designed to take on the Mercedes Benz CLS as it places itself perfectly between the 5 Series and 7 Series. BMW calls it the 4+1, thanks to the new design and technology features.
BMW will be launching the new 6 Series Gran Coupe in US by summer 2012. In all, 3 variants of the coupe will be on offer, 640i, 650i and 650i xDrive. BMW 640i will be powered by a 3.0L TwinPower Turbo V6 generating 315 bhp and 330 lb-ft torque, BMW 650i will be powered by 4.4L TwinPower Turbo V8 generating 445 bhp and 480 lb-ft torque, whereas the 650i xDrive variant will be powered by a the same V8 but will also offer an all drive system.
BMW will showcase the new 6 Series Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show next year while it will be showcased in US later same year during the New York Motor Show. Dimensions of the 6 Series Coupe are 5007 X 1894 X 1392 (L X W X H) mm. Wheelbase is at 2968 mm while boot space of 460 liter is on offer.
BMW engineers have powered the new 6 Series Coupe with state of the art technologies like, BMW Head-Up Display, Driving Dynamics Control, Active Roll Stabilization, Integral Active Steering, Lane Departure Warning System, BMW Night Vision, Park Assist, Rear View camera, Blind Spot Detection, Bang and Olufsen Surroun Music System, and much more.
All variants have a top speed of 250 kmph but the acceleration of 650i variants is far better than 640i. In just 4.5 seconds 650i does a 0-100 kmph while 640i needs 5.4 seconds to do the same. 640i gives a mileage of 13 kmpl whereas the 650i gives a mileage of 11.5 kmpl. All variants have the same 8 speed auto transmission.
Expect BMW to launch the new 6 Series later next year in India. A new diesel variant too will be on offer when launched in India.
