Among the many customs and classics, BMW showcased its Concept 8 Series shown earlier at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in May. It also held the BMW Concept Z4 world premier. Both concepts preview series production cars that will soon be whizzing down the roads. BMW Concept Z4 Roadster is co-developed with 2018 Toyota Supra (coupe). Both cars are expected to be sold in global markets in 2018. BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra are sister models, developed as a result of close collaboration.
The roadster is traditional in essence with its low-slung body, and long hood. The two seater with a retracting roof houses seats that look like they’re positioned in a fast car. Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design say the new concept details new BMW design language perspective.
Powertrain options for BMW Concept Z4 Roadster were not revealed but is likely to be a RWD available in four and six cylinder engines, akin to other production models.
BMW Concept Z4 Roadster sits on a long wheelbase. The stretched body transcends into a compact rear end. A dynamic front and striking flanks come together with a refined tail end. The canvas is interspersed with prominent design lines. A shorter bonnet and crisp overhangs make for a driver seating position closer to the centre of the car. The new proportions endorse agility and sportiness.
Visually, BMW Concept Z4 Roadster has a low silhouette housing large domes stretching rearwards from the cabin to integrate rollover bars. Headlights draw inspiration from Z8 and greet you straight up. On the inside, it’s a familiar sight with plenty of buttons to control vehicle and infotainment functionality. The shifter looks ordinary as of now. The steering wheel has a built in lap timer. The seats though similar aren’t the same and are a different hue.
