At the EICMA 2016 last week, BMW G 310 GS made global debut. Based on the naked G 310 R, the GS is an entry-level adventure tourer. The adventure motorcycle will be produced at the TVS’ Hosur plant alongside the G310R street fighter and Akula 310.
Considering that the motorcycles are going to be manufactured in the country, readers are awaiting to know the launch date. Well, BMW Motorrad has confirmed that the G 310 GS will be launched in India by late 2017 in a tweet.
Made in India for global market, the most affordable BMW adventure motorcycle will be sold in several other international markets but in a phased manner.
To recap, the BMW G 310 R is the first product to come out of TVS-BMW technology co-operation agreement which was formed to come up with sub-500 cc platforms for both brands. G 310 GS is the brand’s second motorcycle based on the same platform. In addition to this, the G 310 R’s TVS cousin will be a fully faired motorcycle which was previewed by the Akula 310 concept.
The BMW G 310 R and G 310 GS are powered by the same 313 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine which is rated at 34 PS and 28 Nm of torque. Transmission is a 6-speed unit. The motorcycle gets an upside down telescopic front fork, rear monoshock, single disc brake at each wheel with ABS and tyres that are specially developed by Michelin.
The BMW G 310 R will rival the KTM Duke 390, Kawasaki Z250 and several other products in the INR 1.5-2.0 lakh price bracket, while the G 310 GS will rival the likes of Mahindra Mojo, Royal Enfield Himalayan, and the upcoming KTM 390 Adventure and Kawasaki X300 Versys.
