BMW Group tops in Global 500 Ranking of Carbon Disclosure Project with score of 99/100

BMW Group has always been at the fore when it comes to conserving energy and preserving the environment. The company has scored a total of 99 out of 100 points where Global 500 Rankings of Carbon Disclosure Project is concerned. Besides this, BMW Group also ranks in the Top 3 of all participating companies across the globe. Climate protection is a major issue for the company as they continually strive to augment environmental protection at the plants while the recent recognition at CDP Global 500 Ranking has authenticated their stand.

Speaking of CDP Global 500 Rankings, this is an independent NGO which works towards reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable water usage by businesses. It ranks 500 companies across the globe and only 10% of these companies make it to the index with BMG Group in a leading position.

BMW Group has been in the news for the second time in one week as it was recognised for its commitment to sustainability on September 8th when it was designated the industry leader in Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes making it the world’s most sustainable automobile company for the seventh year in a row.

The BMW Group achieved its best ever result in the Global 500 ranking of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) published today. Scoring 99 out of a possible 100 points, the company is Sector Leader, underscoring its leading position as the most sustainable automotive manufacturer in the world. In addition, the BMW Group ranks among the Top 3 of all participating companies worldwide.

Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Norbert Reithofer, emphasised: “We are focused on climate protection at all our locations worldwide. We consistently promote environmental protection at our plants and have made major progress in recent years. Our success in the CDP Global 500 ranking confirms that we are on the right track.”

The Carbon Disclosure Project’s ranking is regarded as one of the most prestigious ratings for sustainability and evaluates 500 companies worldwide.
Two Leadership rankings are formed from the Global 500 ranking: the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for transparent reporting and the Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI) for effective action on climate protection. Only the top ten per cent of companies make it onto this index. The BMW Group takes a leading position on both indices.

The BMW Group’s excellent rating shows once again that the company pursues climate protection along the entire value chain and has it embedded in the long-term corporate strategy. The BMW Group also informs its stakeholders of progress and goals in the area of climate protection on a regular basis.
