BMW unveils the i3 Concept Coupe at the 2012 LA Auto show. This three door model is designed on lines of sustainable premium class motoring incorporating aspect of Zero emissions. The car boasts of a stream lined design structure which combines innovative aerodynamics, transparency and lightness.
It’s powered by an electric motor capable of producing maximum power of 170 hp and peak torque of 250 Nm. Rear wheel drive functionality is accentuated with the presence of a single speed transmission system. A lowered centre of gravity has been achieved with placing of lithium ion cells beneath floor space area. BMW I vehicle and BMW e Drive technology which are being developed hope to gradually improve electric drive train performance. Carbon fiber reinforced plastic has been used to design the Life module of this vehicle.
Chassis, drive train, engine storage unit and structural crash functions have been incorporated within a lightweight yet sturdy aluminum frame. A Front apron optimizes air flow to wheel arches while a rear apron helps to diffuse and optimize air flow conditions at the back of the vehicle.
