Frank Schloeder replaces Philip von Sahr as BMW India president

Philip von Sahr moves back to Germany to assume a new executive position in Berlin.

Philip von Sahr, president, BMW Group India, will be moving to Germany to head the BMW Niederlassung (translates into branch) in Berlin. The automaker has appointed Frank Schloeder, the existing marketing director at BMW India, as the acting president.

Mr. Schloeder (41) was born in Trier Germany in November 1974. He completed his education in business administration at the University of Munster, Germany and Montpellier Business School, France. He has been working at BMW since 1997. The new appointment will be effective from May 1.

BMW India would be looking to regain the ground it lost to Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

Philipp von Sahr (58) headed BMW India at challenging times. As of now, the Mercedes-Benz India leads the game with sales of over 13,000 units in the recently ended financial year.

BMW India launched several updated models in 2015 in a bid to retain its market share. We expect the luxury brand to have quite a few updates for this year as well.

BMW India started off 2016 by launching the new gen 7 Series flagship sedan at the Auto Expo in February. Shortly after the launch, the 730 Ld variant started rolling out of the company’s CKD plant in Chennai.

The new president’s primary role would be to improve sales.

The main task for the new president would be to improve sales and regain the lost ground in the intensely fought Indian luxury car segment.
