In the new BMW India price list (with effect from 1st January 2015), some variants of popular models are missing, indicating they are silently discontinued.
The German luxury car marque recently announced that they are more interested in profitability than volume sales. This now seems like a hint dropped regarding discontinuation of variants that have not been selling well / have lesser profit margin than others of the same model.
Variants that are missing from new price list belong to BMW 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series and X1 Crossover. They are BMW 116i Prestige, BMW 328i Sport Plus, BMW 520d Modern Line, BMW 525d Luxury Plus and BMW X1 20d Expedition & Sport Line, although some still show on the official website. Some of the trims like BMW 116i Prestige and BMW 328i Sport Plus never seemed to be going out of showrooms much, which are actually petrol versions. Looking at the list again, there are very few petrol models left to be phased out, if that is their intention. Given the narrowing gap between petrol and diesel fuel prices, will BMW bring ‘i’suffix versions back anytime soon?
