BMW India sales cross 11k in 2018 – Registers 13 percent growth

BMW India is now the second largest luxury car brand in the country. Mercedes is No 1.

BMW India has maintained its growth momentum in car sales. For the year 2018, BMW India Group sold a total of 11,105 cars. This includes sales of Mini as well. Thus growing by 13% as compared to 2017 figures.

Speaking about BMW cars, their sales crossed the 10k mark for the first time in a calendar year. BMW cars sold in India for 2018 were at 10,405 units. This is a growth 11%. Mini sales stood at 700 units in 2018, growing by a staggering 66%.

BMW Motorrad India, the motorcycle division of the BMW Group India, also delivered a staggering performance. In 2018, BMW sold a total of 2,187 motorcycles. The growth was boosted by the launch of entry level G310R and G310GS, which are made in India by TVS.

BMW India reveals, “BMW 5 Series and BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo have contributed strongly to the growth story. BMW also saw significant contribution of upto 50% coming from the locally-produced Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) range with strong contribution from the new BMW X3.

Presently, BMW X1, BMW X3 and BMW X5 are locally-produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai. In 2019, the plant will also start local production of BMW X4 and BMW X7.”

Apart from this, BMW India is planning on launching the new generation 3 Series sedan. It has already been spied in India. Launch of the new 2019 3 Series will result in a huge improvement in sales for the Bavarian car maker.
