Sales will commence across Europe by spring while sales in the US will start in early summer. Both, M3 and M4 will be around 80 kgs lighter than the outgoing M3 coupe. This weight saving is due to lighter engine and extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic which is being used for the first time on sedan’s roof along with aluminum body panels.

Engine on board the M3 and M4 will be the all-new in-line six, offering 425 hp at 5,500 rpm to 7,300 rpm, and torque of 550 Nm between 1,850 to 5,500 rpm. Top speed is restricted to 250 kmph (280 kmph with M Driver’s package) and there is significant reduction in fuel consumption and auto emissions (by up to 25%).

Apart from this, the European release mentions of a new function called ‘Smokey Burnout’. This function allows the driver to to indulge in a degree of rear wheel spin while the car is moving at low speeds. This feature is missing from the North American press release.

Both models will receive a host of safety and infotainment features while interiors will be done up in carbon fiber elements, with sports seats and distinctive driver controls.
