BMW M8 flagship performance coupe confirmed – Listen to exhaust note

BMW is also developing M8 GTE endurance race car.

BMW recently unveiled the new Concept 8 Series coupe thereby confirming that the iconic model series is all set to make a comeback next year. The luxury car maker has followed up the news by confirming the development of M8 performance variant.

Revealed (a fully camouflaged prototype) in a driving presentation during the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race last weekend, BMW M8 will sit at the very top of the brand’s performance lineup. The car will feature typical M elements like larger air intakes, upgraded brakes, sports exhaust system with four tailpipes, sharp body kits, exclusive alloy wheels, carbon fiber inserts inside out, and so on.

Development of BMW M8 will progress in parallel with that of the regular 8 Series lineup which is set to include a Coupe, GranCoupe and a Cabriolet. That’s not all. BMW has also confirmed that it is developing a M8 GTE race car which will mark its return to the famed 24 Hours of LeMans endurance race.

Without revealing much, the company’s Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt confirmed that BMW M8 GTE will make its race debut at Daytona 24 Hours in January 2018 before contesting at LeMans in mid-2018.

The 8 Series lineup which is resurrected after a 19-year gap is slated to be an upmarket replacement for the 6 Series family whose production came to a silent halt recently.
