New BMW F 900 R And F 900 XR Launched In India From Rs 9.9 Lakh

BMW Motorrad today expanded its India portfolio to include two new middleweight motorcycles, F 900 R and F 900 XR

While F 900 R naked roadster will be replacing F 800 R, the F 900 XR ADV sports tourer will appeal to riders looking for an affordable alternative to BMW S 1000 XR. F 900 XR is well-equipped for both sport riding and long distance touring. Below are the prices;

Both motorcycles use the same 895 cc, water cooled, in-line two-cylinder engine, but power and torque output is slightly different for both. On the F 900 R, the engine makes 99 bhp of max power and 90.8 Nm of max torque. In comparison, the engine on F 900 XR is tuned to deliver 104 bhp / 92 Nm. Engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

BMW F 900 R features an aggressive front section with the headlight and cockpit placed snugly on the handlebars. The overall muscular design and sleek edges compliment the motorcycle’s athletic nature. Gold painted USD forks and upswept compact exhaust enhance the machine’s visual appeal. Colour options for BMW F 900 R include Hockenheim Silver Metallic / Racing Red, San Marino Blue Metallic and Black Storm Metallic.

BMW F 900 XR comes with additional fairing and dual LED lamps that ensure a dominating stance. The short tail clearly indicates the bike’s sporty nature. The motorcycle offers an upright and relaxed seating position, which ensures more comfort on long distance rides. BMW F 900 XR is equipped with height-adjustable windshield and fully-adjustable hand lever. Colour options include Racing Red, Light White and Galvanic Gold Metallic.

Features that are common to both motorcycles include adaptive headlight, dynamic brake control (DBC), engine braking control (EBC), and BMW Motorrad ABS. Adaptive headlight ensures safer night rides, as these are automatically activated at a lean angle of 7°. These provide optimal illumination when negotiating a curve. Other key features include a 6.5 inch TFT colour display that can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth. Electronic rider aides are also available that include riding modes of Road and Rain.

BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR utilize a bridge-type chassis with steel shell construction. Suspension system comprises 43 MM USD forks and cast aluminium dual swing arm rear suspension. However suspension travel is different for both; 135 mm / 142 mm for 900 R and 170 mm / 172 mm for 900 XR.

BMW F 900 R will take on rivals such as KTM 790 Duke, Triumph Street Triple RS and Yamaha MT-09. On the other hand, F 900 XR will go up against Tiger 900 GT range and Ducati Multistrada 950 in the Indian market.
