BMW India has announced that the new BMW X1 and BMW 7 Series will be launched in India on the 3rd of February 2016, at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo in Greater Noida. Apart from launching these two cars, there will be many more BMW cars on display at the biennial event. These includes new 3 Series, 3 GT, 5 Series, X3, X5, M4, M6, X6M, Z4 and i8. BMW’s subsidiary, BMW Motorrad will display BMW S 1000 XR , BMW S 1000 RR, BMW R nine T and BMW R 1200 GS motorcycles.
Speaking about the new BMW X1, which now enters second gen, is built on a lightweight platform. This has resulted in lower weight. New X1 weighs 1660 kgs, which is 30 kgs lighter than the older gen X1. Measuring 4,439 mm x 1,821 mm x 1,598 mm (L x W x H), 2016 BMW X1 is 36 mm shorter, 21 mm wider and 53 mm taller than the older gen X1. Though shorter in length, interior space has been increased to offer more comfort to passengers. Sitting on wheelbase of 2,670 mm, boot space too has been increased to 505 liters, 85 liters more than old X1.
As seen on board the new 3 Series, which was launched a few days ago in India, we expect the new X1 to also be offered with only one engine option. This will be in the form of a 2.0 liter diesel generating 190 hp peak power and 400 Nm max torque, mated to a 8 speed automatic transmission. Price could be in the range of INR 30-40 lakh.
Speaking about the new generation BMW 7 Series, which has already been showcased to prospective customers here in India, the car is BMW’s new flagship. To be offered in a range of petrol and diesel engine options, new 7 Series for India will be loaded with technology.
130 kg lighter than the older 7 Series, some of the smart new features on offer include – touchscreen on key-fob, parking the car via remote control on board the key-fob, laser headlights, panoramic sunroof with Sky Lounge, Touch Command infotainment system, Bowers and Wilkins surround system and much more.
