A pair of what appear to be disguised Bugatti Chiron (Veyron successor) test mules have been spotted being transported out of Los Angeles airport (LAX). These spy shots, uploaded on Instagram by user “hungry_penguin” establishes the presence of the prototypes in America during the Pebble beach Concours d’elegance 2015, indicating that there was indeed a private preview for elite customers.
VW-owned French hypercar maker has already teased its upcoming creation in a video. Touted to become the new fastest production car in the world, Chiron (speculative name) would be retaining its predecessor’s mighty 8.0-litre W16 engine which is expected to push out around 1,500 PS with the help of e-turbo technology.
With Chiron, Bugatti engineers are reportedly targeting a top speed record of 450 kmph (280 mph) which is roughly 20 kmph more than the record set by Veyron Super Sport. 0-100 kmph would be dispatched in about 2 seconds.
Like Veyron, it’s replacement is expected two spawn Grand Sport Vitesse open top version and have a limited production run in due course. As far as the design goes, expect an evolution of Veyron’s lines with enhanced emphasis on aerodynamics.
Bugatti Chiron is expected to be ready sometime towards the end of next year but a concept could be showcased at Geneva Motor Show 2016 in March.
