Bugatti Chiron sets new world record : Does 0-400-0 kmph in 42 seconds – Watch Video

The Bugatti Chiron’s styling is a futuristic interpretation of the Veyron. The engineers started with the Veyron have worked on to improve each and every aspect of the car to arrive at the Chiron. The latest Bugatti is powered by the same 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16 petrol engine as the Veyron but it is tuned to produce much higher outputs at 1,500 PS and 1,600 Nm of torque.

What does this translate into in real world? Well, you can do a top speed of over 450 kmph, if the road permits that is. Anyways, the folks at Bugatti have managed to do a speed run with former F1 driver, Juan Pablo Montoya in the driver’s seat. Watch the video below.

Juan manages do take the Chiron from 0 to 400 to 0 kmph in just 42 seconds. The entire exercise of 0-400 kmph and coming back to 0 kmph was achieved in a road length of 3.112 km. Mind you, this was not a top speed run. It was only a test of Chiron’s acceleration to 400 kmph. Next year, Bugatti will do the official top speed run of Chiron, Juan is hoping he will be invited. 0 – 400 kmph takes a mere 32.6 seconds.

Speaking about sales, just a year after its global debut, Bugatti Chiron bookings have surpassed the 250 units mark. That means, half of the Bugatti Chiron’s are already sold out. A total of 500 units are to be made. More than 100 units were already booked even before the car made its debut.

Speaking about the regions from where the most bookings have come, Europe stands on top accounting to 37% of the bookings of the new Chiron. Followed by North America at 30%, and Middle East at 25%. Remaining 7% of the orders have come from various parts of the world.

The mighty Bugatti Chiron will attempt to break its predecessor’s top speed record of 268 mph (431.3 kmph). The record attempt has been confirmed by the brand’s CEO Wolfgang Durheimer. He says that the Chiron will be faster than the Veron 16.4 Super Sport which currently holds the title of world’s fastest production car but nobody at Bugatti knows exactly how fast the new hypercar will be.

Mr. Durheimer says that the company has made top speed calculations based on simulations but admits that sitting in the car and actually doing it is much different. Speaking of doing it, the Chiron’s top-speed run will take place at Volkswagen’s Ehra-Lessien test facility (the same venue where the Veyron set its record) next year. We are waiting.
