BYD Seal is currently India’s most affordable high-performance vehicle as it can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under 4 seconds. It is offered at a price point starting from Rs 41 lakh for the base Dynamic trim with single motor layout and goes till Rs 53.15 lakh for the top-spec Performance trim with dual motor AWD layout (prices Ex-sh).
Fast forwarding to 2026, BYD has announced a voluntary recall for the Seal EV with possible faults identified with its high-voltage battery. BYD Seal customers are advised to get their cars checked at BYD authorised service centres. Let’s take a closer look.
BYD Seal Recalled In India
Build Your Dreams (BYD) has emerged as the world’s highest-selling electric car brand. Even in India, BYD has emerged as a notable luxury car manufacturer with 5,402 units sold in CY 2025. The company started this journey with Seal, which is currently India’s most affordable high-performance vehicle.

This sedan is now under the limelight as BYD has issued a voluntary recall, related to potential faults with its high-voltage battery pack. As per a recent report, BYD users have revealed these developments and are asked to book a service appointment with their nearest service centre during the week days (Monday to Friday).
If a customer is unable to take their cars to the service centre, BYD India will dispatch authorised service personnel to pick up and diagnose. Authorised technicians will perform an OBD check on BYD Seal. If there are any issues detected with the battery pack or cells, BYD India is offering a free replacement for owners.
How many units are affected?
Currently, BYD has not revealed how many units of Seal sedan have been affected with this potential issue. Nor did the company announce the batch number and production dates for these potentially affected units. Also, the issue seems to be only limited to Seal sedan and the closely associated Sealion 7 SUV is not part of this recall.

BYD Seal is offered in India in three trim levels – Dynamic, Premium and Performance. Base Dynamic is priced at Rs 41 lakh (Ex-sh) and is powered by a 61.44 kWh battery and a single RWD motor. Premium gets the larger 82.56 kWh battery pack and a single RWD motor, priced at Rs 45.7 lakh (Ex-sh).
Only the top-spec Performance trim gets the dual motor AWD layout with up to 525 PS of peak power and a mind-numbing 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.8 seconds. This drivetrain also sips juice from the larger 82.56 kWh battery pack.
