Car Retail Sales CY and Dec 2025 – Maruti, Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai, Toyota, Kia, Skoda VW, JSW MG

Car sales marked a 26.64% YoY growth in Dec 2025 while in CY 2025 the segment showed off a 9.70% growth in retail sales

Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released retail vehicle sales data for the calendar year 2025 (Jan to Dec 2025). Growth was seen across most segments through the period Jan to Dec 2025 with a total of 2,81,61,228 units sold marking a 7.71% YoY growth. Demand increased by 7.24% across the two wheeler segment with 2,02,95,650 units sold. The passenger vehicle segment improved its retail sales by 9.70% to 44,75,309 units while CV total sales stood at 10,09,654 marking a 6.71% growth.

Here we breakdown car retail sales exclusively and its performance both in CY 2025 and during Dec 2025. On a YoY basis, car sales have grown by 26.64% to 3,79,671 units from 2,99,799 units sold in Dec 2024. New product launches, year-end buying, the marriage season, a sharp reduction in GST structure and a positive sentiment across rural areas have all contributed to this increased growth.

Car Retail Sales CY 2025

Total car sales in CY2025 stood at 44,75,309 units, a growth over 40,79,532 units of CY2024. Most automakers have reported significant increase in sales specifically in the luxury segment. Maruti Suzuki was the highest selling OEM in the country. Sales stood at 17,86,226 units commanding a 39.91% market share. This was a rise over 16,41,773 units sold in CY 2024 when market share had stood at 40.24%. Mahindra followed with 5,92,771 units, a growth over 4,92,981 units sold in the same 12 month period of the previous year.

Tata Motors at No. 3 accounted for total retail sales of 5,67,607 units growing from 5,37,737 units sold in CY2024. Following this positive growth of the leading 3 automakers, Hyundai has suffered a decline to 5,59,558 units, down from 5,61,183 units sold in CY2024.

Toyota followed with 3,20,703 units sold in CY 2025. This was well over 2,60,591 units sold in CY 2024. This was a volume increase of 60,112 units. Market share has also improved strongly to 7.17% from 6.39%. Kia India also performed well with 2,59,043 units sold in the past calendar year, over 2,38,222 units sold in the same period of the previous period.

Skoda VW had 1,08,277 unit sales in CY2025, up from 79,880 units in CY 2024 taking its market share up to 2.42% from 1.96%. MG Motor also saw its total retail sales up to 65,614 units from 52,975 units while Honda Car sales declined to 62,576 units from 69,137 units during the said periods. Renault India sales dipped to 36,420 units from 40,669 units while Nissan total retail sales suffered a strong setback to 21,875 units in CY2025 from 26,225 units in the same period a year ago.

Across the luxury segment, Mercedes sales went up to 18,026 units in CY 2025 from 178,324 units. BMW also witnessed retail sales growth to 16,735 units, well over 14,375 units sold in CY 2024. Stellantis (Jeep / Citroen) sales dipped to 10,686 units while lower down the sale order Force Motors (7,627 units), Jaguar Land Rover (5,792 units) and BYD India (5,402 units) each witnessed strong growth. Other automakers added 30,371 units to total retail sales, a growth from 21,533 units sold in CY 2024.

Car Retail YoY Sales – Dec 2025

On a Year-on-year basis. Every car maker with the exception of MG Motor and Mercedes Benz have reported improved sales. Maruti sales grew to 1,50,123 units in Dec 2025 from 1,17,861 units sold in Dec 2024 taking up market share to 39.54%. It was the company’s sub 4 meter segment that prompted this increase in sales.

Tata Motors retail sales were at 52,139 units in the past month, up from 38,482 units sold in the same month last year. Strong growth was also reported by Hyundai Motors at 48,413 units from 40,298 units while Mahindra sales were scaled up to 47,882 units, well over 37,051 units sold in Dec 2024. Toyota also witnessed a rise in retail sales to 26,012 units from 20,434 units while Kia India saw its sales improve to 20,568 units in the past month from 17,894 units sold in the same month last year. Skoda VW and Honda too reported a marked increase at 9,193 units and 5,537 units respectively.

MG Motor sales have declined sharply to 4,178 units from 5,700 units YoY. Renault India accounted for 3,304 units with a 0.87% market share while Nissan India also retail sales went up to 1,744 units from 1,688 units during the said periods.

In the luxury segment, BMW sold 1,582 units while Mercedes retail sales dipped to 1,361 units from 1,515 units sold in Dec 2024. Sales growth was also reported for Stellantis Group at 1,226 units and for Force Motors at 727 units. Jaguar Land Rover sales remained flat at 311 units. BYD India added 237 units to total retail sales while others on this list contributed 5,134 units in Dec 2025, up from 1,821 units sold in Dec 2024.
