
India’s passenger car market closed December 2025 on a strong note, registering total domestic sales of 4,04,231 units. This marked a healthy year-on-year growth of 25.8 per cent compared to December 2024, when the industry had recorded 3,21,345 units. The strong YoY performance highlights sustained consumer demand across segments, even as month-on-month volumes dipped slightly by 3.2 per cent compared to November 2025.
Car Sales Dec 2025
Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the market in December 2025, selling 1,78,646 cars. This was a significant increase of over 48,500 units compared to the same month last year, translating into a robust 37.3 per cent YoY growth. On a month-on-month basis as well, Maruti posted a steady rise of 4.5 per cent, reinforcing its leadership position.

Mahindra climbed to second position with sales of 50,946 units, posting a 23 per cent YoY growth, although volumes declined by nearly 10 per cent compared to November. Tata Motors followed closely with 50,046 units, growing 13.2 per cent YoY, but also saw a sharper MoM decline of almost 13 per cent.
Hyundai was in fourth place with sales of 42,416 units. While YoY growth was largely flat at 0.5 per cent, the brand experienced a notable month-on-month drop of 15.7 per cent. Toyota delivered a solid performance with 34,159 units, registering a strong 37.3 per cent YoY growth and a healthy 13.5 per cent MoM increase, indicating improving momentum towards the year-end.

Kia stood out with the highest YoY growth among major manufacturers, selling 18,659 units, more than doubling its December 2024 numbers with a 108 per cent jump. However, compared to November 2025, Kia’s volumes declined sharply by nearly 27 per cent.
Car Brands With Under 10k Sales
In the mid-pack, MG Motor sold 6,500 units, down 13.5 per cent YoY but up nearly 13 per cent month-on-month. Honda reported 5,807 units, seeing declines both YoY and MoM, while Skoda posted a positive performance with 5,567 units, growing over 22 per cent YoY and remaining largely flat MoM.

Volkswagen sold 4,256 units in December, down 11 per cent YoY but showing a strong MoM recovery of over 27 per cent. Renault delivered a positive showing with 3,845 units, up 33.5 per cent YoY and marginally higher than November. Nissan’s sales stood at 1,902 units, remaining largely flat month-on-month but lower YoY. Citroen continued its growth trajectory with 1,190 units, posting a sharp 110 per cent YoY increase, though slightly lower than November. Jeep remained a niche player with 292 units, registering marginal growth in both YoY and MoM.
Overall, while December 2025 saw a slight cooling in sales compared to November, the strong year-on-year growth underscores a positive trend for the Indian car market, driven by sustained demand, new launches, and improving consumer sentiment across mass and premium segments.
